Freer, William Reading

Born Hull 1875. Son of William Freer (1854-1890) and Frances Amelia Reading (1856-1930). He married at Hull in 1898. Husband of Maggie Dunn. They had eight children (five girls and three boys) in 15 years. His name is recorded on the WW1 Memorial at St Matthews Church, Boulevard, Hull.

SS Trefusis, built by J. Readhead & Sons, South Shields in 1893 and owned at the time of her loss by Hain SS. Co. Ltd. (E. Hain & Son, mgrs.) St. Ives, was a British steamer of 2.642 tons. On April 7th, 1917, Trefusis, on a voyage from Cardiff to Alexandria with a cargo of coal, was scuttled and sunk by the German submarine U-65 (Hermann von Fischel), 30 miles southeast from Cape Pula, Sardinia. There were no casualties. Allen Tony 07/04/2010 TREFUSIS SS was a British cargo steamer of 2,642grt that was stopped and scuttled by German submarine U-65 on the 7th April 1917 when 30 miles Se of Cape Pula, Sardinia when on route from Cardiff for Alexandria with a cargo of coal.
