BORN HULL 22/101882. SON OF ROBERT JOHN FRETWELL & AGNES ANN DECENT, AT 24 QUEENSGATE, HULL & WITHERNSEA. EDUCATED AT ST GEORGES ROMAN CATHOLIC SCHOOL, HULL EMPLOYED AS A LONDON NEWSAGENT, WORKING IN THE NORTH LONDON BRANCH, OF THE NATIONAL AND PROVINCIAL NEWSAGENT ASSOCIATION. HE MARRIED MARY LILIAN RIDLEY, IN LONDON, ON 12/06/1909. THEY LIVED AT 370 ESSEX ROAD, ISLINGTON. THEY HAD THREE SONS. ERNEST, STANLEY AND SIDNEY. HE LEFT £307 IN HIS WILL TO HIS WIDOW, MARY LILIAN FRETWELL.
HE ENLISTED AT HOLLOWAY, NORTH LONDON, IN FEBRUARY 1917. JOINING THE RIFLE BRIGADE. POSTED TO FRANCE IN MAY 1917. KILLED IN ACTION AT ST JULIEN, ON 16/10/1917, AGED 34. BURIED IN A GERMAN CEMETERY NEAR LANGEMARK.
HIS DEATH AND ADDRESS, WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 26/10/1917. HE WAS BROTHER, TO AGNES, JAMES AND ERNEST FRETWELL.
HE IS RECORDED IN THE DE RUVIGNY ROLL OF HONOUR, VOLUME 4, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
