BORN HULL 08/11/1883. SON OF WILLIAM JAMES FRIDLINGTON (1850-1931) & AGNES CORDELIA ACKLAM (1852-1896), OF 42, SOUTHGATE, HORNSEA (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HIS FATHER AS A GAS WORKS LABOURER. ONE OF NINE CHILDREN. HIS BROTHERS ROBERT, GEORGE AND WILLIAM, SISTERS SARAH, ELSIE, MARY AND LUCY FRIDLINGTON LIVED AT  2, MARY ANN TERRACE, SCULCOATES LANE, HULL(1918 ER). JOHN WORKED AS AN OIL MILLER, LIVING AT 5, JOHNS PLACE, YORK STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS).

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. HE SERVED WITH THE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT AND WAS KILLED IN ACTION AT THE SOMME ON 08/06/1918, AGED 34.

HIS NAME IS CARVED ON THE STONE PILLARS INSIDE ST MARY’S CHURCH, SCULCOATES LANE, WHERE HE WAS BAPTISED.

HE IS BURIED ON THE SOMME, AT AUCHONVILLERS MILITARY CEMETERY.

HIS BROTHER GEORGE SERVED IN THE ROYAL NAVY BEFORE WW1, BUT JOINED THE 3RD AND 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE BATTAIONS DURING THE WAR.

HIS PARENTS, WERE THE GRANDPARENTS OF ROBERT TATTERSALL, KILLED IN ACTION, AT THE SOMME, ON 01/07/1916.
