BORN HULL 1892. SON OF CHARLES FYTCHE (1851-1901) AND SARAH ANN POTTAGE (1861-1939). A GENERAL LABOURER. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. DIED OF WOUNDS, AT THE SOMME, ON 12/08/1918, AGED 26. BURIED AT VILLERS-BRETONNEUX MILITARY, CEMETERY, SOMME
NOTE: CENSUS RECORDS SAY THAT WILLIAM WAS BORN IN CAISTER, LINCS AND THAT HE LIVED IN GRIMSBY. SOLDIER DIED RECORDS STATE THAT HE WAS BORN IN HULL.
HIS COUSIN, PRIVATE, WALTER LAWRENCE FYTCHE, ALSO OF THE 7TH EYR, WAS KILLED ON 25/09/1917, AGED 25 AND IS BURIED AT DUISANS. THEY ARE THE ONLY TWO CASUALTIES WITH THE ‘FYTCHE’ SURNAME DURING THE FIRST WORLD WAR.
