BORN HULL 1885. SON OF DENTON GARDAM (1832-1911) AND MARY MORRELL (1842-1900). HIS PARENTS WERE BOTH DECEASED WHEN THE WAR BEGAN. HE HAD BROTHERS, HERBERT AND WILLIAM DENTON GARDAM AND SISTERS, FLORENCE, ANNIE AND ADA. EMPLOYED AS A MERCHANT’S CLERK.

HE MARRIED ON 15/03/1910, AT HARLEY STREET REGISTRY OFFICE. HIS WIFE EDITH HORNER (1886-1981) AND THEIR THREE CHILDREN, LIVED AT 8 TRENES AVENUE, PERTH STREET, HULL.

DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 5.5 INCHES TALL, 34 INCH CHEST, A TATTOO OF AN ANCHOR ON HIS RIGHT ARM. ENLISTED HULL, 09/12/1915. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 24854, EYR. ARRIVED FRANCE, ON 15/10/1916. TRANSFERRED TO THE 2ND WEST RIDING REGIMENT, ON 27/10/1916. KILLED IN ACTION, ON THE BAUPAUME ROAD, 05/02/1917, AGED 31. A CAP BADGE, DIARY, TWO RELIGIOUS BOOKS AND PHOTOS WERE RETURNED TO HIS WIDOW, EDITH, AT 8 IRENE AVENUE, PERTH STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).
HIS IS BURIED AT FINS NEW BRITISH CEMETERY, SOREL-LE-GRAND, ON THE SOMME. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “HE ANSWERED HIS CALL”.
