BORN HULL 1891. SON OF TOM ANDRW GILBERT & ANNIE GILBERT, OF 15 SARAH ANNS TERRACE., WALKER STREET, HULL (1901 CENSUS) AND 1 HARRIETS PLACE, WAVERLEY STREET, HULL. SON OF A DOCK LABOURER. PREVIOUSLY HE WORKED AS A BLACKSMITH AT MESSRS CD HOLMES, HULL AND THE BRITISH GAS LIGHT COMPANY, HULL. HE MARRIED EVA CROWE (1894-1969), AT ST JAMES CHURCH, 0N 25/12/1913.

HE ENLISTED TWO WEEKS AFTER THE START OF THE WAR. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 109080 EYR. TRANSFERRED TO THE 10TH WEST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 23/04/1917, AGE 26. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, MRS EVA GILBERT & YOUNG CHILD AT 54 EDGAR STREET, HULL.

HIS PHOTOGRAPH APPEARS IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL 15/08/1917.

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE BRITISH GAS LIGHT AND COKE COMPANY WAR MEMORIAL, KEPT AT THE FAKENHAM GAS WORKS MUSEUM, NORFOLK.
