Gill, Thomas

BORN HULL 1890. ORIGINAL HULL PAL. PARENTS ANNIE & THOMAS GILL. WIDOW MABEL, 2 LILLIAN TER., WOODHOUSE ST., HEDON RD.
Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE THOMAS GILL 12/862. Born in 1890. Thomas was the eldest of three children to Thomas and Annie Gill. His younger brother Harold had died in 1904, and Thomas Snr followed in 1910, so when Thomas married Mabel Pearson on 13th August 1910, they set up home moving Annie and Thomas’s younger sister in with them at 10 Wansley Terrace, Clifton Street, Hull. The couple named their firstborn after Thomas’s lost brother, Harold, and in total they had three children- Harold, Dorothy and Frances. A Dock Labourer by trade, he signed up to fight for King and Country on 3rd October 1914, but I doubt he was even fitted for a uniform. Thomas Gill died of Typhoid Fever in Hull Sanitorium on 3rd November 1914 and is buried in Western Cemetery; he was 24 years old.
