BORN BRADFORD 07/09/1876. KNOWN AS “VINNY”. SON OF JOE GILL (1847-1924) AND ANNIE GILL (1848-1938). HE WAS A HULL DOCK LABOURER AND TIMBER FOREMAN.

HE MARRIED ON 02/04/1899 AT HULL TRINITY CHURCH. HUSBAND OF JANE ELIZABETH GILL (1876-1937) AND FATHER TO SON ALBERT & DAUGHTERS MARION, CLARICE AND ANNIE. THEY LIVED AT 4 KINGSTON TERRACE, HOPWOOD STREET, HULL AND 24, BLAKE STREET, LIDDLE STREET, BEVERLEY ROAD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS)

BEFORE ENLISTING HE WORKED FOR MR BAKER, A HULL TIMBER IMPORTER.

HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS, ON 30/11/1914. SERVED IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. HE WAS KILLED INSTANTLY BY A BURSTING SHELL IN HIS DUGOUT, WHERE HE WAS SITTING. HE DIED ON 10/08/1916, AGED 40. HE LEFT A WIDOW AND FOUR CHILDREN. HIS WIFE MOVED TO 24 BLAKE STREET, LIDDEL STREET, BEVERLEY ROAD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SHE WAS AWARDED A WEEKLY WAR PENSION OF 25 SHILLINGS ON 26/02/1917.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 23/08/1916. *
