BORN GRIMSTON, YORKS, 1897. SON OF ROBERT GOFORTH (1869-1953) & JANE ELIZABETH DICKINSON (1871-1945), HATFIELD PARVA, SKIRLAUGH, HULL. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS, LIVING AT CLIFF HOUSE FARM, HOLMPTON, WITHERNSEA.

A FARM HORSEMAN. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 4.5 INCHES TALL, 34-36 INCH CHEST, 122 LBS WEIGHT, A DISTINCTIVE MOLE ON THE BACK OF HIS NECK.

HE LIVED IN HULL. ENLISTED AT WITHERNSEA ON 17/02/1916. CALLED UP ON 03/06/1916. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 24639 EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 15/10/1916. TRANSFERRED TO THE 2ND WEST RIDING REGIMENT, ON 27/10/1916. KILLED ON 03/05/1917, AGED 20. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR ONE YEAR AND 76 DAYS. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, ROBERT.

BURIED AT BROWN’S COPSE CEMETERY, ROEUX, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS”.
