Goodson, George Ernest

Born Barton, Lincolnshire, 1887. Son of William and Betsey Goodson. He had three brothers. A single man working as a Crate Maker, living at 24, Pasture Road, Barton upon Humber, Lincolnshire (1911 Census). He later became a brick maker. Described as 5 foot, 4 inches tall, 140 lbs weight, 35.5- 37 inch chest, Tattoos on both arms, good physical development.

He enlisted in Hull on the 9th November 1914. Served with the 11th EYR (Hull Pals) in Egypt and France. Survived the battles of the Somme and Oppy Wood (wounded in the thigh). Killed at Arras, on 08/11/1917, aged 30. Commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France. He had served in the army for 2 years.
