BORN HULL. NEWINGTON, 1882. ONLY CHILD OF WALTER AND REBECCA GREEN, AT 8 PEASE STREET, HULL. FORMER MOTORMAN AND TRAMWAY EMPLOYEE. HE MARRIED HARRIET LAKE GREEN, AT HALLERTON, ON 16/03/1904. THEY LIVED AT 68 CEYLON STREET, MARFLEET. HE WAS CALLED UP FOR SERVICE, AT GREAT YARMOUTH, ON 03/07/1916, AGED 34. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 7 INCHES TALL, 147 LBS, 34 INCH CHEST, COMPLETE SET OF FALSE TEETH. INITIALLY HE JOINED THE ST JOHN AMBULANCE BRIGADE. TRANSFEERED TO THE ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY, AND SERVED AS AN ORDERLY IN THE BRITISH RED CROSS SOCIETY.

HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, AT THE SOMME, ON 31/08/1918, AGED 36. HIS BODY WAS EXHUMED AND BURIED AT ASSEVILLERS NEW BRITISH CEMETERY. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, HARRIET AND THEIR FOUR CHILDREN, ALBERT, JOHN, DOROTHY AND JACK. SHE RECEIVED A WEEKLY WAR PENSION OF 33 SHILLINGS AND 9 PENCE, AND LATER MOVED TO 27 HIGH STREET, HULL. HIS PHOTOGRAPH & ADDRESS WERE PRINTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 31ST MARCH 1915. *
