Born Hull, 1890. Son of Thomas and Mary Groke, of 22, Mary Anns Terrace, Sculcoates Lane, Hull (1911 Census) and Little Albion Street, Hull (Army NOK records).

He was a Bricklayer Labourer at Greenwoods, Hull. Described as 5 foot 5.5 inches tall, 133 lbs weight, 36-38.5 inch chest, blue eyes, brown hair, Roman catholic religion.

Enlisted at Hull, on 11 August 1914. Judged a bad character, not likely to make an efficient soldier, he was discharged after 78 days, on 24 October 1914.

He re-enlisted on 15 Feb 1915, as Private, 10435, East Yorkshire Regiment. Transferred to the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry & Cout Martialed in Dec 1915. Transferred to the Northumberland Fusiliers and Labour Corps. Discharged on 17 Jun 1919. Awarded the Silver War Badge (No: B324702).

Sent to the Hull City Asylum, Willerby, Hull (1921 Census). Died at Hull, in 1967, aged 75.
