Guinan, William Edward

Born Sutton, Hull 1870. Son of Margaret Bradley Marrow from Ireland. She lived at 2 Argyll Terrace, Courtney Street, Hull (1911 address). He had a brother, John and sister, Margaret Guinan

Formerly, Lance Corporal, 4176, in the 1st EYR. He had served in Egypt and India and in the army for 18 years and 106 days, before retiring on 08/06/1911.

An unemployed visitor, at 10 Woodhouse Avenue Woodhouse Street, Hedon Road Hull (1911 Census), with Sarah Copeland as head of Household. She became his unmarried wife and moved to 65 Belmont Street, New Bridge Road, Hull (War pension address).

He later  worked as a messenger Clerk. Described as 5 foot, 6.5 inches tall, 169 lbs weight, 40-42 inch chest, Grey eyes, brown hair, scar on the back of his right hand, Catholic religion. (army Records).

Enlisted on 06/02/1915, aged 44 years old. Served as 1303, with the 13th (Service) Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment (1st Depot Co). Promoted to Sergeant on 01/05/1916. Transferred to the Labour Corps. Discharged with Bronchitis and high blood pressure, on 29/11/1918 after 21 years and 348 days service. Awarded Silver Wound Badge.

Died on 22/09/1921, aged 51.

He left £248 to his widowed mother, Margaret Marrow, at 60, Belmont Street, New Bridge Road, Hull (probate address)
