BORN HULL 1888. SON OF ROBERT JAMES LODGE GUTHRIE (1852-1930) & HARRIET GUTHRIE (1854-1951), OF 24, BROOKLYN STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS). HIS FATHER WAS A DRAPER’S SUPERINTENDENT. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS, (DONALD AND RONALD) AND ONE SISTER, MONICA. HE WORKED AS AN INSURANCE CLERK

HE MARRIED AT HULL, IN 1915. HIS WIFE, ETHEL MARGARET TESSEYMAN (1888-1959), LIVED AT 22, HEATHCOTE STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS).

HE ENLISTED AS A GUNNER IN THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY. COMMISSIONED TO SECOND LIEUTENANT. PROMOTED TO FIRST LIEUTENANT, IN THE 3RD NORTHUMBRIAAN BRIGADE, ROYAL FIELD ARTLLERY.

HE DIED AT GRIMSBY, ON 07/11/1918, AGED 30. BURIED AT HULL NORTHERN CEMETERY.

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL, AT ST JOHNS CHURCH, NEWLAND, HULL.

HE LEFT £247 IN HIS WILL TO HIS WIDOW, WHO MARRIED HORACE PALETHORPE, IN 1929.
