Hadlow, Robert Thomas

BORN DONCASTER, 1887. SON OF ROBERT THOMAS HADLOW (1861-1931) AND MTILDA ALDRIDGE (1865-1930), OF 10, NICHOLSON STREET, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS). SON OF A GLASS BOTTLE MAKER. HE HAD SIX BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS. HE JOINED THE ARMY ON 29/04/1908. WAS A TIME EXPIRED RESERVIST AND WORKED AT SISSON BROTHERS.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 14/08/1914. SERVED AS PRIVATE, ROBERT THOMAS HADLOW, 20162, ROYAL ARMY MEDICAL CORDS. DISCHARGED FROM THE ARMY ON 19/05/1915, WITH MYALGIA AND AS MEDICALLY UNFIT. HE HAD SERVED FOR 7 YEARS AND 21 DAYS. AWARDED THE SILVER WAR BADGE NO: 7363. HE DIED IN HULL, ON 05/03/1919, AGED 31.

HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, EDWARD ALDRIDGE HADLOW, 12TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. DIED OF WOUNDS, IN FRANCE, ON 17/04/1916, AGED 26. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 1 YEAR AND 215 DAYS. BURIED AT BEAUVAL COMMUNAL CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “HE DID HIS BIT MAY HEAVEN REWARD HIM FROM HIS LOVING WIFE JENNY”. HIS WIFE REMARRIED ON 22/06/1918. PTE. E.H. HADLOW, EYR (KILLED) IS LISTED ON HULL’S ROSE STREET, MEMORIAL. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 20TH SEPTEMBER 1916.*
