BORN HULL 1877. SON OF ELIZA & JOHN WILLIAM HAGUE. HE WAS A CHIEF OFFICER WITH THE WILSON SHIPPING LINE. HIS MERCHANT VESSEL WAS MINED IN THE WAR AND HE DROWNED ON 12/02/1916, AGED 39. HIS WIFE SARAH ANN (WILSON) AND THREE CHILDREN LIVED AT 15 VICTORIA AVENUE, WELLSTED STREET, HULL. HE WAS A FORMER TRINITY HOUSE BOY AND IS RECORDED ON THE TRINITY HOUSE SCHOOL ROH. HE IS ALSO LISTED IN THE HULL MERCHANT NAVY RECORDS. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH ON 25TH FEBRUARY 1916. *

SS Leicester, built by Earle’s Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. Ltd., Hull in 1891 and owned at the time of her loss by Great Central Railway, Grimsby, was a British steamer of 1001 tons. On February 12th, 1916, Leicester, on a voyage from Portsmouth to Cromarty with general cargo, was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-6 (Matthias Graf von Schmettow), 2.5 miles SExE from Folkestone Pier. 17 persons were lost.
