MARRIED IN OCTOBER 1909, AGED 21, HIS WIFE ETHEL JACKSON AND TWO SONS, LIVED AT 30, ENA STREET, BOULEVARD, HULL. HE SERVED IN THE MERCHANT NAVY DURING THE WAR AND WAS LOST ON THE STEAM SHIP “MONTEBELLO” ON 21/06/1918, AGED 29. HE LEFT £164 IN HIS WILL TO HIS WIDOW, ETHEL AT THIS PROBATE ADDRESS. HIS NAME IS LISTED ON ST MATTHEWS CHURCH ROH, BOULEVARD. (1918 MILITARY VOTERS ADDRESS.)

HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, SYDNEY ORLANDO HALEY (1890-1916) 34453, YORK & ANCASTER REGIMENT LIVED AT 237 BOULEVARD, HULL. HE WAS KILLED ON 01/10/1916 AND IS COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.
SS Montebello, built by Earle’s Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. Ltd., Hull in 1911 and owned at the time of her loss by Ellerman’s Wilson Line, Ltd., Hull, was a British steamer of 4324 tons. On June 21st, 1918, Montebello, on a voyage from London to Hampton Roads, was sunk by the German submarine U-100 (Degenhart von Loë), 320 miles W1/2N from Ushant (Ouessant). 41 persons were lost, included the ship’s Master.
