Hall, Ernest Creasey

Withernsea WW1 Memorial, Queens Street. The memorial was erected in 1923 at a cost of £451, the funds for which were collected through public subscription. A service of dedication was held in 1924. Inscribed in four columns, are the names of sixty-four men killed in World War I.

BORN HULL 1898. SON OF CHARLES HALL (1869-1940) & LAURA JANE CREASEY (1868-1955), OF 79 MERSEY STREET, HULL AND LATER 60 QUEEN STREET, WITHERNSEA. HE HAD ONE ELDER BROTHER, GEORGE EDWARD HALL.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 81977 TRAINING BATTALION. TRANSFERRED TO THE 2ND KING’S OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY. KILLED IN ACTION, AT YPRES, ON 13/03/1918, AGED 19.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, LAURA (1868-1955). HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE WITHERNSEA WW1 MEMORIAL.

HIS ONLY BROTHER, GEORGE EDWARD HALL SURVIVED THE WAR.
