HE MARRIED AT ST ANDREW’S CHURCH, HULL, ON 04/07/1915. HIS WIFE ETHEL (APPLEGATE) & DAUGHTER DORA,  LIVED 21 ABBEY STREET, HULL (ARMY RECORDS ADDRESS) & LATER WITHERNSEA.

HE WORKED AS A BARMAN. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 5 INCHES TALL, 150LBS WEIGHT, 38 INCH CHEST. ENLISTED 08/04/1916. SENT TO FRANCE 07/09/1916. SERVED IN THE 8TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, AT SERRE, ON 13/11/1916, AGED 25. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW ETHEL.

HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE GARDENER SOCIETY WW1 MEMORIAL, AT HULL MINSTER.

HIS BROTHER IN LAW, PTE. ROBERT APPLEGATE, EYR, WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 10/11/1916. (HDM 15/12/1916.)
