Joseph Hamshaw

Born Hull 26/05/1882. Son of John Hamshaw (1857-1936) and Elizabeth Briggs (1860-1901), of Hull and Hornsea. He worked as an Auctioneers Clerk.

Married Nellie Pegg on 15 May 1905, at Skirlaugh. His wife Nellie and son Jack lived at 31, Addiscombe Grove, East Croydon.

He enlisted in the Royal Naval Reserve, on 14/06/1916. Served as Leading Deckhand, on HM Motor Launch 276. Killed in action on 10/05/1918. Buried at Dunkerque Town Cemetery Extension, France.

His brother, Gordon Hamshaw, 8th EYR, died of wounds, on 11/06/1917 and is buried at Gainsborough General Cemetery.
