Hanstock, Arthur

Born Cottingham 1891. Son of James Hans Hanstock and Elizabeth Ann Speck, of 7 Wilberforce Terrace, Providence Row, Hull. One of five children. Brother to Charles and William, Maude and Edith. He was employed as a carter on the railways. He married in 1913. Husband of Ethel Thorp Hanstock, of 46 Sidmouth Street, Hull. He enlisted in Hull. Served as Private, 22825, East Yorkshire Regiment. Transferred as Private, 38561, of the Tyneside Scots. He was killed in action, on 10/12/1916, aged 25. His army effects were left to his widow, Ethel
His surname is spelt “Handstock” on St Mary’s Church Memorial, Sculcoates Lane, and as “Hunstock” in  the Hull Daily Mail. His name is recorded on the Sculcoates, and Nicholson Street Memorials & listed on City Engineers Memorial, Parks Street, Hull.
He is buried in France. His grave inscription reads, “A TREASURED MEMORY – FROM HIS LOVING WIFE AND DAUGHTER”
