BORN HULL 1887. ELDEST SON OF HENRY BELL HARDING (1862-1941) & JANE ANN HARDING AT THIS ARMY RECORDS ADDRESS. ALSO LIVED AT 1 CARNIVAL TERRACE, ALEXANDRA STREET IN 1901 AND 2 DERBY TERRACE, CLARENDON STREET. HULL POST OFFICE WORKER – SORTING OFFICE AND TELEGRAPHIST. HE WAS MARRIED TO MAUD HARDING, LIVING AT 230 ALLIANCE AVENUE AND THIS ADDRESS. MEMBER OF THE EBENEEZER, PRIMITIVE METHODIST, WESLEYAN CHURCH, SPRING BANK WHERE HE WAS A SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER. HE VOLUNTEERED FOR POSTAL DUTIES AND WAS ATTACHED TO THE RE’S. ENLISTED IN LONDON ON 20/11/1914. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 9 INCHES TALL, 147 LBS, 32 INCH CHEST, BLUE EYES, DARK BROWN HAIR AND SALLOW COMPLEXION. AFTER SERVING IN FRANCE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS, HE WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE DARDENELLES ON 11/04/1915, WHERE HE DIED OF WOUNDS ON 19/05/1915, AGED 28. HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH WERE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 23RD JUNE 1915. * HE IS BURIED AT SKEW BRIDGE CEMETERY, AT GALLIPOLI. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “THEIR GLORY SHALL NOT BE BLOTTED OUT”.
HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, FRANK ERNEST HARDING, 10TH EYR, ALSO DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 29/03/1918, AGED 24.
