BORN BRADFORD, YORKS., 1895. SON OF ALBERT HENRY HARPER (1861-1911) & EMILY ELLIS WILKINS (1867-1941), OF ‘FERNLEIGH HOUSE’, BEECH GROVE, BEVERLEY ROAD, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). SON OF A SHIPPING MANAGER. BROTHER OF ROLAND AND CLIFFORD HARPER, AND SISTER EMILY.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL AS PRIVATE, 10/1073, 10TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. COMMISSIONED AS SECOND LIEUTENANT IN THE 1ST, 2ND AND 4TH WEST RIDING REGIMENT, ON 28TH MAY 1918.. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 4/11/1917, AGED 23, A WEEK BEFORE THE WAR ENDED.

HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL WW1 MEMORIAL.

HE IS BURIED AT RUESNES COMMUNAL CEMETERY, NORD, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “A JOYOUS AND BRAVE LIFE FULL OF PROMISE”.
