BORN BRADFORD 1894. SON OF HARRY HARRISON (1868-1938) & EMMA WHITEHEAD (1869-1946), OF , 4 ORCHARD VIEW, NEWLAND AVENUE AND 86 ETON STREET, HESSLE ROAD, HULL. A GLASS WORKER. ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS. KILLED IN ACTION 13/11/1916, AGED 22. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER HARRY. HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, EDWARD HUDSON HARRISON, 11/1345, 12TH EYR WAS KILLED ON 02/07/1916, AGED 21.
Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE JOSHUA HARRISON 12/1513. Born in Bradford in 1894, Joshua was the third of nine children to Hardisty and Emma Harrison of 86 Goulton Street, Hessle Road, Hull. A Glass Leveller by trade, he enlisted at City Hall joining the 12th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, ‘The Sportsmen’, 3rd Hull Pals. One of the Originals he served in Egypt from Christmas 1915 until the battalion left Port Said bound for Marseilles on 29th February 1916. A little over a week later they faced a very different kind of war as they climbed from the train at Armentieres and trudged to the trenches of the Western Front. Joshua was killed in action on 13th November 1916 during the last desperate action of the Somme campaign and his body lost forever in the mud. His name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial; he was 22 years old.
