2nd, Lieut, Arthur Head, MM, RFA

Second Lieutenant, Arthur Head, MM, served with the Royal Field Artillery, 44th Brigade. He died of wounds, on 06/09/1918, aged 28. His parents, William Head and mother, Rose Amelia Hembley, lived at 75 Spring Street, Hull, 57 Trinity Street and 26 Wright Street, Hull .

He enlisted in the Royal Field Artillery, in 1907, as a Trumpeter. On the outbreak of war, he held the rank, of Bombardier and quickly rose through the ranks. He received his Commission, in June 1918, for “Services in the Field”. He was also awarded the Military Medal (MM) as Sergeant,  46081, RFA and held the Mons Star. As a boy he was a Trumpeter, in the East Riding RFA Volunteers. His death was reported in the Hull Daily Mail, on 10/09/1918. *

He left £259 in his will to William Head, Club Steward at this Probate Address.

His younder brother, Private, Frank Head, Royal Dublin Fusiliers was killed at Gallipoli, on 04/06/1915, aged 19. Another brother, Gunner, Bert Head, RGA, had been wounded three times.

His Father, William was a former Company Sergeant Major, in the Royal Garrison Artillery with 4o years military service to his credit. He served eight years in Gibraltar, and served four years as an Instructor, with the Artillery Volunteers, at Park Street, barracks, Hull.
