BORN HULL 1895. SECOND SON OF THE LATE JOHN WILLIAM HEWITT AND MARY JANE HEWITT, OF  20, TOMLINSON STREET, ANLABY ROAD, HULL. HIS FATHER WAS A FISHERMAN AND 2ND OFFICER, RNR, HMS ‘SEA LION’. HE HAD AN OLDER BROTHER, JOHN WILLIAM HEWITT & THREE YOUNGER SISTERS, OLIVE, ADA AND EVA.

HE WAS EMPLOYED AS A ROPE RUNNER (1911) AND FOR THE IDEAL BOLER COMPANY, NATIONAL AVENUE, HULL. LIVED AT 8, ALBERT AVENUE, SELBY STREET, HULL

HE ENLISTED AT HULL, ON 03/10/1916. DESCRIBED AS 4 FOOT 11 INCHES TALL, 34 INCH CHEST, 110 LBS. HIS MOTHER DIED OF BRONCHITIS ON 15/12/1916. POSTED TO FRANCE, 23/01/1917. KILLED IN ACTION AT ARRAS, 24/04/1917, AGED 21. HE WAS UNMARRIED AND HIS WILL WAS DIVIDED EVENLY BETWEEN HIS BROTHER AND THREE SISTER AT THIS ADDRESS.
