Born Hull 1891. Only son of John Reeve Hicks (1864-1952) & Fanny Collinson (1869-1939), of 67 Walmsley Street, Hull. He had a younger sister, Hilda Hicks, who lived at 60 Somerscales Street, Beverley Road. He worked as a Clerk.
He married on 18/11/1915, at Hull. Husband of Daisy (Stone) later Newlove, They lived at 60 Somerscales Street (Army Records Address), Hull. Described as 5 foot, 4.5 inches tall, 33-35 inch chest, 120 lbs weight.
He enlisted on 15/12/1915. Embarked for France, on 08/04/1916. Served in the 12th East Yorkshire Regiment (Hull Pals). Severely wounded at Serre, on on 13/11/16. Received gun shot wounds and compound fracture. Invalided to England. Died of wounds, exacerbated by Menighitis, at Dyke Road Hospital, Brighton, on 12/01/1917, aged 26. His relatives were present at his side. He had served in the army for 1 year and 36 days.
He was buried at Hull Northern cemetery, after a Wesleyan Church Service.
His death was reported in the HDM on 15/01/1917. His widow was a warded a weekly pension, of 13 shillings and nine pence, on 16/07/1917. They had no children.
