Pte. Thomas Fenton Hildyard, 6th EYR

BORN HULL 1891. SON OF HENRY FENTON HILDYARD (1857-1925) & SUSAN TANSEY (1865-1910), AT 8 EDWIN TERRACE, STRICKLAND STREET, HULL.  HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS. WORKED AS A CRANE DRIVER, AND BOARDED AT ADELAIDE STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS). HE MARRIED MARY JANE BRINT (1894-1969), KNOWN AS “POLLY”, ON 21/09/1913. THEY LIVED AT  17 SARAH ANNE’S TERRACE, WALKER STREET, HULL AND HAD TWO CHILDREN, THOMAS AND FREDERICK WHO DIED IN INFANCY.

HE ENLISTED IN THE 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE PIONEERS. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 21/09/1916, AGED 24. HE WAS KILLED ON HIS WEDDING ANNIVERSARY. HE LEFT A WIDOW AND YOUNG CHILD. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 05/10/1916. *

HE IS BURIED AT ALBERT COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, SOMME, FRANCE. HIS WAR PENSION WENT TO HIS WIDOW WHO RE-MARRIED ON 24/12/1917 AND BECAME MARY JANE JOHNSON, LIVING AT 10 BEAN STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).
HIS BROTHER WAS ALSO KILLED IN THE WAT – PRIVATE, 11469, HARRY FENTON HILDYARD, 7TH EYR, WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 24/04/1917, AGED 22.

THEY BOTH LEFT THEIR ARMY EFFECTS TO THEIR ELDER SISTER, MRS ANNIE LOUISA FENTON RICHARDSON, AT 17 SARAH ANNE’S TERRACE, WALKER STREET, HULL. THEY ALSO LEFT ANOTHER SISTER, MARGARET EVELYN HILDYARD.
