Born Middlesbrough 1879. MASTER MARINER. Son of Perter William and Elizabeth Hill, of Middlesbrough. Husband of Florence Moody Hill, of 184 Albert Avenue, Hull (1911 Census) and above. She later moved to Marlborough Avenue, Hornsea, with their son and daughter.
SS Renfrew, built by W. Doxford & Sons, Ltd., Sunderland in 1907 and owned at the time of her loss by Irismere Steam Shipping Co. Ltd. (B. J. Sutherland & Co. Ltd.), Newcastle, was a British steamer of 3830 tons. On February 24th, 1918, Renfrew, on a voyage from Bilbao to Barrow with a cargo of iron ore, was sunk by the German submarine U-91 (Alfred von Glasenapp), 8 miles southwest of St Ann’s Head, St George’s Channel. 40 persons were lost.
