Hirst, Edwin

Born Hull 1877. Son of Henry Archibald Hirst (1842-1897) and Ellen Elizabeth Caldwell (1841-1916), of 5 Cottingham Drain, Charles Street, Hull (1911 Census). He had two brothers and four sisters. A Joiner by trade

Previously served with the Northumbrian RFA. Re-enlisted at Hull, on 17/11/1914. Served as No: 58, with the 124th Hull Heavy Brigade. Promoted to Sergeant, on 09/01/1915. Posted to Africa and France, on 17/06/1916. Invalided home on 15/03/1917. Discharged with Malaria and Shell Shock, on 28/07/1918. He had served in the army for 3 years and 254 days. Awarded Silver War Badge No: 435918. he died at Hull, in 1926, aged 49.
