BORN HULL 1892. SON OF THE LAT ROBERT HODGES & ANNIE ELIZABETH HODGES, OF 9 GREAT PASSAGE STREET, HULL. HIS MOTHER MARRIED ALBERT JACKSON AND LIVED AT 8 BUCKINGHAM STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). CHARLES HODGES LIVED IN HULL. BUT ENLISTED IN HORNSEA. HE WAS A REGULAR SOLDIER. BASED WITH THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT AT ALDERSHOT, HAMPSHIRE (1911 CENSUS).
CHARLES ARRIVED IN FRANCE WITH THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. SERVED WITH THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 18/10/1914, AGED 20.
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL, HAINAUT, BELGIUM.
HE IS PHOTOGRAPHED WITH HIS FIVE SERVING BROTHERS AND TWO STEP BROTHERS, IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, 28/02/1916. *
HIS ELDER BROTHER, ROBERT HODGES, WAS MASTER OF THE CARGO SHIP, “ANTONIO”, SUNK BY SUBMARINE, ON 07/03/1917, AGED 30.
HIS STEP BROTHER, PRIVATE TOM JACKSON, 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT WAS KILLED BY A SNIPER ON 05/11/1915.
