BORN HULL 22/04/1887. SON OF ROBERT & ANNIE ELIZABETH HODGES, OF 9, GREAT PASSAGE STREET, HULL. WHEN HIS FATHER DIED, ANNIE HODGES MARRIED ALBERT JACKSON AND MOVED TO 24, WHITBY STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 8, BUCKINGHAM STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS).

A MASTER MARINER. HIS CERTIFICATE WAS ISSUED ON 18/11/1907. HE WAS SKIPPER, OF THE CARGO SHIP, “ANTONIO”, SUNK ON 07/03/1917, AGED 30.

HIS NAME IS LISTED ON ST MATTHEWS CHURCH MEMORIAL, BOULEVARD & TRINITY HOUSE ROLL OF HONOUR.

HE MARRIED CLARA MARY SELLERS, AT HULL, IN 1916. HE LEFT £176 IN HIS WILL TO HIS WIDOW, CLARA MARY HODGES.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 29/09/1917 WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, 9356, CHARLES HODGES, 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, WAS KILLED IN BELGIUM, ON 18/10/1914, AGED 21.

HIS STEP BROTHER, PRIVATE, T. JACKSON, 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, WAS KILLED BY A SNIPER, ON 05//1/1915.

ALL SIX HODGES BROTHER SERVED DURING THE WAR. THEY ARE PHOTOGRAPHED WITH THEIR TWO STEP BROTHERS, IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, 28/06/1916.*

The British cargo Antonio was sunk on 7th March 1917 by a mine from the German submarine UC-17 (Ralph Wenninger), 7 miles off Dartmouth. Antonio was on her way from Barry to Cherbourg with a cargo of hay. 11 were killed.
