BORN DRIFFIELD 1894. SON OF HENRY HODGSON (1867-1943) & ANNIE ELIZABETH BARMBY (1867-1955), OF 95 GLASGOW STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SON OF A JOINER. ELDEST OF NINE CHILDREN. HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS AND FOUR SISTERS. LATE EMPLOYEE OF THE CITY ENGRAVING COMPANY.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 9TH WEST YORKSHIRES. LEFT ENGLAND ON 11/07/1915. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 10/08/1915, AGED 21. A SINGLE MAN. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, ANNIE. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE HELLES MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING, AT GALLIPOLI.
HIS NAME IS ALSO RECORDED ON THE ON ST MATHEWS CHURCH WW1 MEMORIAL, BOULEVARD.

HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, JOHN ERNEST HODGSON, EX 4TH EYR, DIED OF WOUNDS, AT YORK HOSPITAL, IN 1918, AGED 30 AND IS BURIED IN HULL. THE BROTHERS ARE PICTURED TOGETHER IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 08/09/1915. *
