BORN HULL 1891. ONLY SON OF JOSEPH WILLIAM STANLEY & JANE HARRIET HOLBROOK, AT 4 HEDON ROAD, HULL (CWGC & WAR PENSION ADDRESS). THE FAMILY LIVED AT 99 GREEK STREET, (1918 MILITARY VOTERS ADDRESS). HE HAD FOUR YOUNGER SISTERS. SON OF A SHIPPING CLERK. EMPLOYED AS A SHIP’S LABOURER.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS A GUNNER,165924, WITH THE ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY, 164TH SIEGE BATTERY DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 20/05/1918, AGED 27.

BURIED AT ETAPLES MILITARY CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “HE HEARD HIS COUNTRY’S CALL GAVE HIS LIFE HIS YOUTH, HIS ALL A LOVING SON AND BROTHER”
