BORN HULL 1879. SON OF CHARLES HOLMES, OF 9 STAVES BUILDINGS, PORTER STREET, HULL. HUSBAND OF WIFE FLORENCE HOLMES, OF 15 HOWARDS ROW, CHAPMAN STREET, HULL. AN OIL MILLER (1911 CENSUS). EMPLOYED BY MESSRS, HEWITT & THOMPSON, CONFECTIONERS, WHEN WAR BEGAN. HE ENLISTED IN 1916. SERVED WITH THE 2ND NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. DIED AS A PRISONER OF WAR, ON 31/03/1918, AGED 28. BURIED AT MONS CEMETERY, BELGIUM.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 21/08/1918*
