BORN HULL 1899. SON OF MR WILLIAM THOMAS BARNES HOLMES (1872-1941) & MRS SABRINA NEEDHAM HOLMES (1867-1952), OF 17, CECIL STREET, HAWTHORNE AVENUE, HULL AND 82, GREEK STREET, HAWTHORNE AVENUE, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE HAD ONE BROTHER AND THREE SISTERS. A LAMP MAN FOR THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 12/10/1916. CALLED UP FOR SERVICE, ON 30/05/1917, AGED 18. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 4.5 INCHES TALL, 120 LBS WEIGHT, 35 INCH CHEST. SERVED IN THE 2ND DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY. DIED OF GUN SHOT WOUNDS TO THE ABDOMEN, ON 01/11/1918, AGED 19.

BURIED AT PREMONT BRITISH CEMETERY, AISNE, FRANCE.

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH, WAR MEMORIAL, NEWINGTON, HULL.
