BORN HULL 1895. SON OF DANIEL HOPPER (1860-1935) & AMELIA STOWE OVERTON (1862-1920), OF 31, MAPLE STREET, HULL AND 70, ALEXANDRA ROAD, HULL, (WAR PENSION & CWGC ADDRESS). ONE OF 10 CHILDREN. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND SIX SISTERS. A NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY MESSENGER.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 1739, 1/4TH EYR. TRANSFERRED AS PRIVATE, 238135, 7TH LINCOLNSHIRE REGIMENT. HE WAS WOUNDED IN BOTH ARMS AND DIED OF WOUNDS AT YPRES, ON 29/08/1918, AGED 22. HE IS BURIED AT THE POZIERES CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “HE SLEEPS WITH ENGLAND’S HEROES IN THE WATCHFUL CARE OF GOD”.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, AMELIA.

HE IS PHOTOGRAPHED WITH HIS PAL, PRIVATE, ROBERT JEFFREY, 1/4TH EYR, WHO WAS KILLED IN THE SAME ATTACK. (HULL DAILY MAIL 17/05/1917). THE HULL TIMES ON 22/05/1915 REPORTS THAT DAN HOPPER, LIVED AT 70, ALEXANDRA ROAD, HULL.
HIS BROTHER PTE, GEORGE ALLAN HOPPER, ROYAL ENGINEER’S, RAILWAY DIVISION, DIED AT DUNKIRK, ON 07/04/1918, AGED 24. BOTH OF THE HOPPER BROTHERS ARE COMMEMORATED ONTHE WW1 MEMORIAL AT ST JOHNS, NEWLAND, HULL.
