BORN HULL 1892. SON OF THOMAS HOPWOOD (1862-1909) AND ANNIE HANSON (1868-1941), OF 5 PROVIDENCE ROW, CHEAPSIDE, CLEVELAND STREET, HULL. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS.

HE MARRIED ANNIE CARLISLE (1883-1969), ON 05/05/1916. HIS WIFE, ANNIE (LATER DUNSWORTH), LIVED AT 16 ETHEL GROVE, BARNSLEY STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). LATER MOVED TO 4 FREEHOLD TERRACE, COURTNEY STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE WORKED AS AN OIL MILLER.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 01//1/1915. FORMERLY, A PRIVATE, IN THE EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. WAS CHARGED WITH 5 PERIODS OF ABSENCE BEFORE JOINING THE BEF. TRANSFERRED TO MACHINE GUN CORPS ON 08/04/1916. POSTED TO FRANCE 26/06/1916. WOUNDED AND RETURNED HOME ON 30/10/1918. DIAGNOSED WITH TUBERCULOSIS.  DISCHARGED 22/11/1918. BURIED AT HEDON ROAD CEMETERY, AGED 28.
