Horberry, Harry

Born Hull 1892. SON OF HENRY JOHN HORBERRY (1862-1916) & SARAH ELIZABETH WHEELER (1866-1909), OF, 7, RIBBLE STREET, HULL (1901 CENSUS) AND 98 WEST PARADE, HULL (1911 CENSUS). HIS FATHER WAS A WIDOWER, AND ENGINE FITTER. HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS AND FOUR SISTERS.

Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE HARRY HORBERRY 12/1152. Born in 1892, Harry was the fourth of eight children to Henry J and Sarah E Horberry, of 98 West Parade, Hull. A Bottle Worker by trade. He enlisted at City Hall joining the 12th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, ‘The Sportsmen’, 3rd Hull Pals. The Battalion Drummer, he served with the Hull Pals in Egypt and France. Killed in action, on 25/05/1916, aged 24. The Battalion’s War Diary covering the date Harry died reported 23 men were killed and 54 wounded. Buried at Sucrerie Military Cemetery, Picardie, France. His army effects were left to his sister, Nancy.
His brother, Private, Alfred Horberry, 7th East Yorkshire Regiment, was killed on 16/02/1916, aged 23.

His brother, Tom Horberry, serving in the 18th Hussars, was also reported missing in the Hull Daily Mail, on 08/12/1914.
