HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE TOWER HILL MEMORIAL

Lepanto was a 6,389 GRT steam cargo ship completed in 1915 by Russell & Co. for T.Wilson, Sons & Co. Ltd. From 1917 she was owned by Ellerman’s Wilson Line Ltd. She was damaged on 23 October 1917 by torpedo fired by German submarine UB-31 approximately 3-4 nautical miles off Dartmouth. She was en route from Middlesbrough to New York.
