Sproatley War memorial, East Yorkshire.

Born Sutton, Hull, 1888. Only son of Frederick William Island (1861-1936) and Mary Chatterton, of 580 Holderness Road, Hull (1911 Census) and Wyton, Ganstead, Hull (Pension Address). He had an elder sister, Winifred, who lived in Wyton, Ganstead.

Employed with his father as a General Printer. Described as %foot, 5,5 inches tall, 33-35 inch chest, 123 lbs weight.

Enlisted Hull, on 23/11/1915. Served with the 21st Kings Royal Rifle Corps. Killed in action, on 07/10/1916, aged 28. He had served in the army for 320 days.

He left £220 in his will and his army effects to his father, Frederick, a retired printer.

Rifleman C/12759. 21st Battalion, King’s Royal Rifle Corps. Killed in action 7th October 1916. Born and enlisted Hull, Yks. Listed on the Sproatley Village memorial with 13 other who died in the Great War.
