BORN NOTTINGHAMSHIRE, STOCKWITH-ON-TRENT 1896. SON OF GEORGE JOHNSON (1856-1906) AND ANNIE WELCH JOHNSON WHO LIVED AT 13 WILSON AVENUE, RHODES STREET, HULL, 44 DIVISION ROAD, HULL AND 6 ST MARKS AVENUE, ST MARK STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE WAS UNMARRIED AND WORKED AS A BOATMAN.

HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS ON 28/11/14. WHILE STATIONED AT RIPON HE OVERSTAYED HIS PASS FOUR TIMES. HE LEFT FOR EGYPT 15/12/15. TRANSFERRED TO FRANCE ON 8/3/1916. WOUNDED BY GUN SHOT TO THE HEAD, FACE AND SKULL ON 31/7/1916. DIED OF HEAD WOUNDS ON 1/10/1916 AT ST OMER HOSPITAL, AGED 20. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE RETURNED TO HIS MOTHER ANNIE AT 44 DIVISION ROAD, HULL.
