Born in Crawley, Sussex, 8 Jun 1890. Son of John Johnson (1864-1916) and Annie Jane Denman (1868-1936). He had eight sisters and four brothers.
He was a professional Soldier, serving with the 2nd East Yorkshire Regiment (1911 Census).
He married at Sculcoates, Hull in 1916. Husband of Elsie May Short (1896 -) of 76, West Parade, Spring Bank, Hull (War Pension address). They had one son, Jack, born in 1917
Enlisted at Haywards Heath. Served with the 2nd & 8th East Yorkshire regiment. Posted to France, on 15/01/1915. Killed in action, on 03/05/1917, aged 27
Commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France. His army effects were left to his widow, Elsie May. She remarried in 1930, aged 34. Their son Jack was cared for by her Grandmother, Mrs Emily Jefferson, in Bridlington.
His brother, Lance Corporal, James Johnson, enlisted in Hull. Formerly 10172, East Surrey Regiment. He transferred to the 2nd EYR and was killed in action, on 27 Feb 1915, aged 22.
