Jones, DSM, CdG, John

Born 5 November 1896 • Pocklington, Yorkshire. Son of Herbert Noah Jones (1853-1912) and Charlotte Greenwood, of 16, Margaret Street, York (1911 Census). He had two brothers and a sister. Worked as a Boy Messenger.

Married Alice Clark, at York on 21st April 1917. They lived at 176, Edinburgh Street, Hull (CWGC records) 5, Salisbury Terrace, Nornabell Street, Hull (War Pension address)

Enlisted at Chatham on 14th September 1914. Served with the 4th Bn., Royal Marines. Killed in action at Zeebrugge, Belguim, on 23/04/1918, aged 21. Commemorated at St James Cemetery, Dover, Kent. Awarded the D.S.M and Croix de Guerre, with Palm, (France).
