BORN NEW HOLLAND, LINCS, 1884. A RAILWAY SHUNTER, LIVING WITH HIS WIFE, EDITH JORDAN (1881-1954), AT 141 GLASGOW STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS).

C. JORDAN IS RECORDED ON HULL’S HESSLE ROAD, MEMORIAL BOARD TO LOST SEAMAN. HE SERVED ON THE “EROS H768” FROM HULL, AND DIED ON 03/02/1916, AGED 30. HE IS NOT LISTED IN CWGC RECORDS.

Eros, built by Cook, Welton & Gemmell, Beverley in 1903 and owned at the time of her loss by Great Northern Steamship Fishing Co. Ltd., Hull, was a British trawler of 181 tons. In 1917 the EROS was requisitioned by the Royal Navy as a fishing trawler (Fishery Reserve).
On June 8th, 1918, Eros was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-40 (Hermann Menzel), 36 miles ENE of Spurn Point, Firth of Forth. 6 persons were lost. The mine was from ‘barrage 45’ and laid on June 8, 1918.
