King, Douglas Roy

BORN HULL 1901. SON OF LOUISA HOSSACK MANSON (1857-1934) & THE LATE WALTER KING (1859-1904) AT 25 HIGH BRIGHTON STREET, AND 9 SOUTH PARADE WITHERNSEA (CWGC ADDRESS). A SEA CADET. LOST AT SEA ON 21/06/1918, AGED 17. COMMEMORATED ON THE TOWER HILL NAVAL MEMORIAL, LONDON.

SS Montebello, was a 4.324grt defensively-armed British merchant ship. Built by Earle’s Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. Ltd., Hull in 1911 and owned at the time of her loss by Ellerman’s Wilson Line, Ltd., Hull. On June 21st, 1918, on a voyage from London to Hampton Roads, was sunk by the German submarine U-100 (Degenhart von Loë), 320 miles W1/2N from Ushant (Ouessant). 41 persons were lost, including the Master.
