Etton WW1 Memorial Cross, on Main Street, New Road, Beverley, lists the 50 names of men who served , including 5 who died in WW1

Born Etton, Yorkshire, 1896. Son of Herbert T. King (1871-1946) and Alice Poppleton (1874-1924), of Gardham, Etton, Beverley, Yorkshire. He had seven brothers and three sister. Worked as a Horse lad working on a farm at Hutton Cranswick, Beverley (1911 Census).

He enlisted at Beverley. Served as Private, 241065, 5th Yorkshire Regiment, “D” Company. Posted to France, on 01/11/1915. Killed in action, on 28/03/1918, aged 22. He was awarded the Military Medal (MM) for bravery. Unmarried. His army effects were left to his father, Herbert.

He is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial to the missing on the Somme.
