King, Stanley

BORN BARROW ON HUMBER, 1896. SON OF CHARLES KING (1870-1948) & SARAH ANN WRIGHT (1866-1939) , NEW HOLLAND ABOVE. A BUTCHER’S ERRAND BOY.

HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS, ON 31/12/1914, AGED 19 AND 9 MONTHS. SERVED IN EGYPT, BELGIUM AND FRANCE. HE SURVIVED TRENCHES, AND SERVED FOR 4 YEARS AND 87 DAYS. HE DIED OF HEART FAILURE, FOLLOWING RHEUMATIC FEVER, AT ST JOHNS VAD HOSPITAL, HULL, ON 27/03/1919, AGED 23. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, SARAH. HE LEFT BROTHERS, GEORGE AND PERCY, AND FOUR SISTERS, AMY, DORIS, MARJORIE AND MAY.

HE IS BURIED AT BARROW-UPON-HUMBER CEMETERY, LINCOLNSHIRE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “A GOOD SOLDIER OF JESUS CHRIST”

 

HIS OTHER BROTHER, DAVID, DIED IN 1921, AGED 22.
