Knight, Albert Edward Perkins

Drummer, Albert Edward Knight, Royal West Kent Regiment

Born Hull 1893. Only son of William Alfred John Knight (1850-1908) & Anna Maria Perkins (1855-1895), at this address. A former coal Tipper at Alexandra Dock. He enlisted in the army at Chichester, on 13th January 1912, aged 18 and 11 months. Posted to the Royal West Kent Regiment. He was described as 5 foot 5 inches tall, 106 lbs weight, 33.5 inch chest, brown hair, brown eyes, “sober, intelligent, and very clean, plays well on the flute.” Left with the British Expeditionary Force, to Belgium, when war began. Shot in the chest, he was invalided to England. He died of wounds, on 20th October, 1914, aged 21, at Guildford County hospital. His army effects were left to his two sisters, Florence and Lucy in Brighton. His eldest sister Lillian lived in Canada. His death was reported in the Hull Times, on 5th December 1914, with his photograph.*
