BORN HULL 1893. SON OF FRANK ERNEST ION (1870-1913) AND MARY JANE LANGDALE (1865-1926), AT 16 ARGYLE TERRACE, ARGYLE STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). BROTHER TO EDITH, HARRY AND FRANK. A SHIP CHANDLERS ASSISTANT. HIS ADDRESS WAS GIVEN AS 32 SOUTH PARADE, HULL WHERE HE BOARDED BEFORE THE WAR. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE PIONEERS. WOUNDED AT GALLIPOLI. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, AT ALEXANDRIA, ON 02/09/1915, AGED 23. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL TIMES, ON 23/10/1915. HE IS LISTED AS KILLED ON THE SOUTH PARADE ROLL OF HONOUR.
HE IS BURIED AT ALEXANDRIA (CHATBY) MILITARY AND WAR MEMORIAL CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “SAFE IN GOD’S KEEPING”.
